OK, so I think we are doing well and making lots of progress. We finally have trail markers and signs at Cam-Rock, and we even have what I think is a really awesome map as well.......

Well, the fam is planning our august vaca, and Copper Harbor is looking like it might be part of the plan. So I go to the new Copper Harbor Trails web site and I get to this  Sad http://www.copperharbortrails.org/trails

I mean holy cr$p! This map has is totally interactive! Roll your mouse over the trail segment, and the name of it lights up. Roll over the name and the trail segment lights up. And if that is not enough, the whole damn thing is on video! Each trail has a video that goes along with it.....And play the video and a map of the trail shows up showing you exactly where the video was taken Cool

Guess we need to up the ante, and hire a full-time trail builder/designer/promoter just so we can keep up with the Jonses' Cheesy

I saw that too. Unfortunately the reality set in that my actually going for a ride and our getting a gathering at BMSP tonight also put off PV work where the offers to help finish the work are not ringing the phone off the hook.

I have hoped that the many offers we get for help could get more specialized and include a tech person help with such stuff.

Don't take this as being down. It looks like we'll get the trail work done and I remain more than pleased with what's happened as of late whether it's something as big as our whole new riding area happening fast or seeing John's photo with good build quality and all the steps from many helpers in between.

That site was neat for me in a whole other way. My wife and I last rode there in 1993 when just fire roads and the paths around the UP ghost towns were a riding thrill and when runs from the high elevations to lake there and at Porkies would about melt rubber and cramp one's hands.

Pretty nice map.

I think that we need to keep after improving maps and signage. I'm going to make laminated copies of the BMSP map and post them at strategic intersections. Then wait for the complaints to roll in, because it will never be big/detailed/simple/ enough to make everyone happy.

I'm not sure that videos add that much to the map. I'd rather have still shots that pop up for reference points along the trail. Something that helps tie the map to what a rider sees while he's out there. All too many discussions about the trail bog down in not being able to reference anything accurately to a location on the map. Or even knowing if you are talking about the same thing.

Having more trail makes the problem worse. You are a victim of your own success!

William: I am not down at all, in fact I think if we look at what has been accomplished through CORP in the last 2-3 years alone it is pretty spectacular. I am also amazed at what has been added to Copper Harbor in the two years since I last rode it. But again, they have a full-time trail builder at work there. Paid for by the tourism bureau or some such agency. We look pretty good in comparison I think.

Walt: I kind of like the videos. Especially nice looking at video and remembering the trails I rode there, and seeing what has been changed. Namely thousands of feet of ladders.

I also like the elevation profile, along with the map tracker, that follows the video. Now if we could just get interactive trails maps at each intersection, with video like on the map, riders could preview the trail to see ahead to see which way they want to ride Grin Or maybe we should just get off our computers and ride Wink

The guys at the bike shop said the crew that developed the software is pretty new and is actively looking for new projects. Hint, hint..... Heh, they also mentioned doubling the total mileage in the next 5 years. You could stay in Houghton and spend all week riding new trail  Grin Grin
