We all know you can have a lot of fun in the dark....so here is an opportunity for you to hang out at a bar for the entire night and have an honest excuse Smiley

The CORP/No Worries Mon team is looking for folks to ride in the Pitch Black Single Track race and have a good time on September 4th and 5th.

This will be a great chance for folks that like to ride but are not sure what this night riding thing is all about, or those who already know the fun of night riding and want to come out and join the fun. Come on out and give it a try! It truly is a lot of fun! Besides, where else can you hang out at a bar all night and tell people you are racing like you are serious or something! You also get great looks from people when you tell them you are racing your mountain bike all night long. People think you are truly crazy. I love the questions like "how do they light up the trails for you?" Gotta love it  Grin

So here's the dealio: I would like to put together some not-overly-serious racing three and/or four person teams for the Pitch Black Single Track race. But we are open to all comers. Some 3 or 6 hour solos or duallies that want to join in on the fun are welcome. Again I would like to get a big 'ol fun pit area going, and as we found out last year a big 'ol fire is a necessity  Cool

Lap times should again be in the 40 minute range or so. This means on a four person team you would have 2.5 to 3 hours rest between laps. Probably 3-4 laps for the twelve hour riders depending on how serious/fast your team is. It usually goes something like this....ride a lap, have a burger and a beer, wait 3 or more hours, ride another lap, etc. We can break into sort-of and not-at-all serious teams for racing purposes.

So who is in for some fun? Post a reply or send me an email to confirm whether you are in. I will try to plan a pre-race ride so folks can get a feel for the course and riding at night. For folks without lights you can rent one through Sigma. I would think the that needs to be done by a week before the race to have time to get it mailed to you. Go to http://stores.sigmasportstore.com/Categories.bok?category=RENTAL+LIGHTS for details on a $40 rental of a sweet light system and/or extra batteries.

Other Info: Best costume award. I would love to see some crazy outfits out on the trail at 3am Cool Camping for significant others or folks who need to get away from the race area can throw a tent in my yard one block away from the start/finish/pit area. I have a big yard with a firepit and a nice quiet area to set up and get some shut-eye for those who need it. Beans had his own exclusive shut-eye area last year, and amazingly to me people actually left him alone to sleep!

Alright! The No Worries Team is starting to shape up for the Twelve hours of Pitch Black Race. So far I think I have one full team committed already, and we still have weeks to go before the start!

Verbal commitments so far (let me know if you have had a change in plans):
Farmer Greg
Tim
Steve, the Teacher
Yours truly, aka The Mayor.

Still lots of time to jump on board. We will make more teams when we get the folks willing to give it a try. We can do two, three or four person, teams. Three hour, Six Hour, 12 hour, you name it. Personally I think the best set up is a four person 12 Hour Team. Last year it was truly awesome to see the fog coming down the valley as the morning hours rolled in! And the early morning breakfast at Heather's was a great way to top the race off Smiley Just throw your name in the hat and we will get you on a team! No Worries....Mon Cool

Pretty sure first place was never a very realistic, or even sought-after, goal for this rag-tag gang. Well unless we were the only team Wink
But I hear ya Greg. The competitive juices get flowin and you want that podium! Pray for massive mechanicals, like no lights! Oh wait. I tried that last year, but it was me not the other team Cheesy

Tom and I may be looking for team mates as well.  First criteria is a willingness to consume copious amounts of malted beverages all night long.

Todd and I will take on Nelson and Tom as team members.

1. Fastest lap by our team must buy a round of bloodys in at breakfast.
2. Each rider must stop at VBC every single lap.
3. One lap must be completed in a costume of some sort.

Nelson needed some team mates and his stipulation was it had to be a for fun alcohol fueled evening.  I was game for that!

Now about that costume.....I wonder if my wife still has an old bridesmaid dress in the closet.

damn, Bear, you're getting old. I was hoping to meet up with you on lap 2 (for me, 1 for you) and race you back to Heathers again like last year! Now it appears I'll have to stop at VBC more often than my 3rd lap like last year just to chat you up some!

oh, well, not a bad plan at that! No costume for me, though.

I just hope I can make it down, wife's Bday that weekend. Guess I need to start building up brownie points!

You can surely jump on board with us, drinking is not a requirement, just encouraged Wink Though having fun in this crazy night race is most definitely required. No sticks-in-the-mud allowed  Tongue

I have a start on team #2 of No Worries...Mon. Believe it or not someone I ran into while vacationing on Madeline Island this last week. We never know where the next recruit for our crazy team will come from Cheesy

Costume #2 has been conjured in my mind!!!!

Gotta come up with a 3rd as I should be riding 3 laps or so.

Team "It Looks Like I Picked The Wrong Week To Quit Drinking" better be ready for full on party in the woods.....we'll ride our bikes a bit as well.....but the fast stuff is going to be left to the rest of the teams.

Throw me his name and I will put him on the list. The more the merrier Smiley

Currently we have a full four-person and three person team. But with more than a week before start time I am sure that will change Wink Some more will jump in and someone will drop out. Last year our final change was about 2 hours before the gun Tongue And we almost had a sign-on replacement about 15 minutes pre-race! Told me later he wished he would have joined in on the fun after he saw what fun we were having.....Should be nice with all day Saturday to get ready this year. No work all day then get ready to race all night like last year Tongue

So are we going to have any ladies join in on the fun this year?

The victims on the No Worries....Mon, sort-of-a-team, so far.....

Yours truly, aka The Mayor
Farmer Greg
Tim Barber
Steve, the Teacher
Bruce
Jake
Brian Anderson
Alan Kinnaman

We need at least one more victim to fill out two full four-person teams. We could use a couple of folks, because if history serves we will have at least one member will drop between now and the gun. If we get more we can split into other conflagrations of teams, and/or a couple of folks could chose to race a six hour dual, etc....Any way it goes it's all good, we will figure it out Cool

Who else wants to join in the wackiness and have some fun Grin

So the updated list of victims, or, er riders  Grin
Yours truly, aka The Mayor
Farmer Greg
Tim Barber
Steve, the Teacher
Bruce (tentative)
Jake (tentative)
Brian Anderson
Alan Kinnaman

The aforementioned list is nowhere near final and should not be used as a guide. In fact it is prolly only accurate until the instant I post it. After that it is obsolete and no longer should be used as a guide in a life or death situation Cheesy In other words, you are on your own....

That is the spirit Thom. Taking one for the team! And with enthusiasm Wink I have you down on the list!

FWIW: Just got off the phone with Mike Osborn of Uphill Grind. They will have a four-man team here as well. But more importantly, he is coming with the shelves fully stocked - lights, gloves, arm warmers, as well as support for any bikes that might need some TLC.

Heck, you could jump on Board with No Worries an hour before the race, get a sweet light set up from Uphill, and be at Checkpoint Victor Bravo Charlie having a beer and a twinkie an hour later  Cool We take care of you out here in Rockdale Grin

Some details.....

Anyone have a pop-up type tent/shelter we can use for Saturday night? This will be a must to keep the dew/fog off us during rest breaks.

Once we are dry, then we need to warm up. Anyone have an above-ground firepit, like this one? (Thanks Coleman) Temps are forecast to be a bit chilly overnight this weekend......On the positive side it should keep the mosquito's down Smiley

As those of you who know me can attest, I am not really a racer so don't have all of that gear. I am a camper, so I have all of that gear down pat. Should I bring the camping stove? Chairs? I can supply the wood for the fire as well....In fact I will try to bring a load from home to leave in the pits area for the race. Just need to remember this on my to-do list....

I just love it when a plan comes together! So I pull into the CR III parking lot last night looking for Dave Hill. No Dave but a van load of folks from Manitowoc there having a post-ride brew. Loved the trails. We get chatting and they were planning on having a team in the PBST, heard about the trails at CR, and came down to check things out. Then one guy has a major mechanical, and another a health issue, and they are down to two. Really not looking forward to a two-man six hour. Wanted to do all twelve hours.

Guess what, after yesterday we were down to six folks for No Worries...Mon! So voila! We now have two full four-man teams for Saturday. This will make this crazy all-night race go the way it should be - more fun Grin That's what No Worries is all about!

So this is the new and improved updated list. Hopefully we are getting somewhere near a final roster Roll Eyes Hopefully I have this right. Please let me know if you thought you either were on the roster and you don't see your name, or you see your name and can't do it.

1) Yours truly, aka The Mayor
2) Farmer Greg
3) Tim Barber
4) Brian Anderson
5) Alan Kinnaman
6) Thom
7) Wade Marks (Manitowoc/New OM chapter Chair. The newest WORBA club in WI)
